Senior Police Leadership & Management Program (SPLMP)

The MACP, in partnership with the University of Manitoba Asper School of Business, announces:

The Senior Police Leadership & Management Program (SPLMP) is a collaboration between the Manitoba Association of Chiefs of Police (MACP), the RCMP, WPS, BPS, other Manitoba municipal police agencies, and the James W. Burns Executive Education Centre at the University of Manitoba’s Asper School of Business. The “SPAC” type program is intended to be a higher-level leadership training program, made in Manitoba for Manitoba police leaders.

This program is designed to be “police centric” and while exploring some non-police business practices (for comparison) the focus is on leadership and management for senior leaders within a policing/law enforcement environment.

Modeled after the highly successful 10-day Advanced Program in Management, Leadership, and Strategy (APMLS), the SPLMP incorporates many modules from the APMLS but goes further to introduce sessions and assignments that are unique to law enforcement. The program is delivered over three weeks and taught by expert session leaders from the Burns Executive Education Centre.

Participants will be taken through a series of topics designed to provide a broad overview of management, leadership, and strategy fundamentals. Participants will be provided with the tools and obtain the competencies to increase their effectiveness within their respective policing agencies.

Graduates of the program will be entitled to 4.5 credit hours toward any Asper program at the University of Manitoba. This program may also be a criterion should MB Justice decide to identify education requirements for Manitoba senior officers within the PSA rewrite.
