Salary(s):  $74,839.00 – $96,438.00 per year

The Legislative Security Officer is expected to provide relevant and up-to-date briefings and recommendations to the Legislative Security Unit Commander regarding all security and operational matters. This includes both planned operations and unplanned live incidents occurring within the Legislative Precinct. The officer is responsible for all duties associated with security and safety that extend beyond the regular duties of the Protective Services Team within the Legislative Precinct.

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must provide and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search)
  • Must provide and maintain a satisfactory Child Abuse and Adult Abuse Registry Checks
  • Satisfactory Enhanced Security Screening
  • Valid First aid/CPR
  • Valid class 5.0 driver’s licence as it relates to the Manitoba Highway Traffic Act
  • Ability to work varying hours, shifts and overtime when required
  • Successfully qualify in issued firearms and issued Less Lethal weapons/options and maintain these standards as required

Qualifications:
Essential:

  • Experience in Canadian Law Enforcement or related Canadian Military experience with Law Enforcement and whereby you carried a firearm as part of your regular duties.
  • Experience/assignment in specialized teams
  • Ability to operate in high pressure environment to ensure complete response to a given threat
  • Thorough understanding of the Criminal Code of Canada as it relates to policing functions
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including building a respectful workplace culture that promotes diversity, learning and continuous improvement
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Strong written communication skills including the ability to write comprehensive reports
  • Experience in court testifying/court process and preparation of required reports/notes
  • Expertise in a team based setting and operational planning and knowledge in the execution
  • Thorough understanding of The Charter of Rights and Powers of Arrest in relation to Police applications

Desired:

  • VIP unit assignment/experience as it relates to Policing
  • Tactical Trauma care experience/training
  • Specialty weapon/firearm training as it relates to Police
  • Ability to foster effective relationships with Indigenous communities through meaningful engagements, cultural awareness and applying the principles of reconciliation
  • Strong political acumen with the ability to build strong relationships.

Duties:
Reporting to the Team Commander of the Legislative Security Unit, the Legislative Security Officer is responsible for enforcing the Legislative Security Act within the Legislative Precinct. This role ensures the security of all Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs), staff, and visitors to the Manitoba Legislative Building and precinct.
