Job Description / Duties

Reporting to the New Westminster Police Board and serving as a member of the City of New Westminster’s Senior Management team, the Chief Constable (Police Chief) assumes overall responsibility for the management and operations of the City’s Police Services. The Chief Constable has direct oversight of the planning, organizing, coordinating, and directing of local police services, including crime prevention, administrative justice, and safety operations for the City. The Chief Constable provides leadership for the day-to-day management and operation of the Department within the parameters of the strategic plan, the annual plan/budget, objectives and policies, and is responsible for developing valuable and inclusive partnerships with key internal and external partners across the City, community, and sector.

This is an exciting professional opportunity for an experienced, progressive, and forward-thinking leader in municipal police services. The preferred candidate will bring demonstrated leadership experience with a successful record in strategic planning, operations, administration, and transformational change. This position requires superior communication and interpersonal skills, as well as a consultative approach and effective management style. The preferred candidate will be required to bring an extensive knowledge of fundamental principles and practices related to modern and proactive community policing and community well-being, in an urban setting.

Salary: The salary for the position is $262,288 – $274,477 annually, supplemented by a competitive total rewards package.
