Gord Perrier, is a 30-year career professional who has directed both strategic and operational functions, including, crisis management and field operations including investigations within a major Canadian police service. He currently serves as the Director of Campus Safety and Security for the University of Manitoba and is responsible for emergency preparedness, security response and numerous risk reduction practices.
Gord began his career with the Winnipeg Police Service as a Special Constable in 1992 serving in the Forensic Services Unit. In 1994, he transitioned to uniform operations as a Police Constable. Starting in 1998 he worked extensively as an investigator municipally, provincially, and nationally in a variety of units or joint force special projects including major crimes, organized crime, financial crime, and professional standards. He was also seconded to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police for four years to lead investigations involving organized crime, money laundering and proceeds of crime on a national and international level.
Gord served as Deputy Chief of Police for five years and previously led both major criminal investigative divisions as a command officer. He also represented Manitoba on the National Policing Advisory Committee for several years.
He is the founding director of Winnipeg’s Child Advocacy Centre, a non-profit corporation that works with several government agencies, including the police, to gather evidence in support of child maltreatment prosecutions. Gord has appeared and made submissions to both the Canadian Senate and House of Commons to address offender sentencing and human trafficking.
He holds a master’s degree in leadership and management from Charles Sturt University in Australia and is a graduate of the Canadian Police College, Executive Development Program. He holds a senior professional certification from the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM-SCP) and is the recipient of the Province of Manitoba Law Enforcement Medal of Excellence, the Canadian Exemplary Police Service Medal and is a Member of the Canadian Order of Merit of the Police Forces.
