On Saturday September 20th, 1969 three commercial fishermen sold their catch, purchased groceries and departed Jackpine Island for Brochet via Reindeer Lake. BIGHETTY left in his own canoe and was ahead of two other men who were also travelling by canoe. The second canoe later had mechanical problems and had to stop on an island. The two men indicated that they had heard the other canoe and figured it was BIGHETTY coming back to look for them. However, they never saw BIGHETTY again. BIGHETTY's canoe was located in the lake in a vertical position 6 miles south of Brochet. It is presumed BIGHETTY drowned and no foul play is suspected in this matter.
