Captain Charles David TILLSLEY, Warrant Officer Tyrus COBB, Sergeant Major James MACKEY and fourth companion departed Fort Churchill for a weekend fishing trip on the Churchill River. They were last seen loading their gear into a boat around 1:00 pm at the Churchill Dock. They were expected back on Sunday September 20th, 1959 but failed to return. The Fort Churchill Military authorities commenced a search with the aid of helicopters and aircraft. On September 21st, the two boats the men used were located, both were swamped and undamaged. Numerous items were found and were identified as belonging to the four men. Extensive land and water searches were conducted. No dragging operations were conducted as the river is very rocky and as deep as 90 feet with severe tidal conditions. To this date the remains of the three have never been recovered.
